Party Themes

Luau

  • Décor – Drape the tables with bright colored table cloths, hang a flower lei and a grass hula skirt from each chair for each of the guests to take home with them.
    • Colors – Tropical, yellows, greens, purples
  • Food – Fruit platter, pineapple topped pizza
    • Use whole pineapples for a centerpiece on the food table
  • Games/Activities
    • Limbo – If you don’t have a limbo game you can make one with three long sticks or branches from your tree and have two people hold them on either end.
    • Learn to Hula – Have a party host of designated person teach the children to hula.  This is fun for children and even the adults.  Don’t forget to video tape it!
    • Make your own hula skirt and lei.

Train Party

  • Décor – Red/White checkered tablecloths, set a train hat, red bandana and a wooden train whistle at each place setting for each of your guests to take home.  Use toy trains at each table as a centerpiece.
    • Colors – Red, Blue & Yellow

Tea Party

  • Décor – Drape the tables with vintage cloths or lace.  Many times you can find these items in your closets at home.  A pastel floral print cloth or sheet draped with a lace curtain over it makes a great display.  Use teapots as centerpieces, and set a teacup and saucer at each place setting.  Don’t worry if you don’t have matching teapots and teacups, it’s much more festive if they are mix-matched.  Check out your local thrift shop for great selection at budget pricing.  If you want to make an even bolder statement, put some fresh or silk flowers in the center teapot and tie balloons to the handle.  Use pastel colored balloons & streamers to accent the room, silk flowers are an added touch.
    • Colors - Any combination of pastel colors
  • Food – Miniature cupcakes, finger sandwiches, cookies.  In a tea party setting, the display is everything so use your nice serving platters!
  • Games/Activities – Have the girls dress up for a photo.  Adorn them in hats, gloves and feather boas and pose for a group photo with your digital camera.  You can also have them “dress up” in vintage clothing that you purchase from your local thrift store.  Instead of “pin the tail on the donkey”, play pin the lid on the teacup.  You can draw and decorated a teacup with construction paper and cut out lids that you number for each child.
  • Other ideas – Drape a feather boa around each of the chairs or place setting for each child to play with or take home.  You can also decorate some straw hats ahead of time with silk flowers and feathers and set them on the table for each child to wear during the party.  You can also have the children decorate their own hat as one of the activities of the party and take it home with them afterwards.

Garden Party

  • Decorate a pot - You can purchase small clay pots from your local art & craft supply store for each child to decorate.  Using mod podge (a glue like substance), have the children decorate the pots with shredded pieces of colored tissue paper or pictures torn from a magazine.  You can take it a step further and fill the pots with potting soil and seeds or a flower for the child to take home.
