Party TipsPlanning a party can be a time consuming, stressful task if you are not prepared. I say this out of experience as I have planned and hosted hundreds of children's parties. I've had some really great and memorable ones as well as some horrible nightmares (unfortunately, these are also memorable!).
Here are some tips and tricks to help you make your party a success.
-
Make sure your party is age-appropriate – If the party is for a 3 year old, make sure there are games activities and prizes appropriate. Keep in mind that small prizes may be a choking hazard. If you are planning to hand out goodie bags you should be sure that they do not contain items that could be potentially harmful.
-
Keep it short and simple – Most people think that a child's birthday party should be an all day event but in reality this is too long for small children. 2 hours is recommended for children under 5 because quite frankly.....they get tired, restless and therefore cranky. You should plan it during a time he/she is not normally napping, remember the party is for the child and if they are not having fun you won't either.
-
Choose a theme for your party - This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a character theme, it could simply be a color scheme or activity themed. If you have some sort of theme, it is easier to plan out your event. Here are some party themes we've used that have been successful.
-
Choose the best games and activities for your party - It is extremely important to keep your little guests interested and busy or they will become board, irritiable and cranky. If you are not up to or able to organize the party activities for your guests, I suggest you appoint someone else to handle this task or when all else fails.......hire a professional!
-
Plan your menu accordingly - 5 year olds don't want elaborate dishes, finger foods work great and pizza is always an easy fix.
Remember, most parties don’t go exactly as planned and mishaps may even occur so keep your sense of humor. The most important thing to remember is that the day is a celebration of the life of a child. |
